In July 2019, Domenic Aquilina was again judged and awarded with the prestigious “Sports Photographer of the Year 2019” award for the third year running at the 29th edition of the Malta Journalism Awards night.
Aquilina’s winning capture depicted match referee Michael Oliver confronted by Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon after signalling a last minute penalty kick against Juventus during the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals second leg match between Real Madrid and Juventus at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain on 11 April 2018.
